Starting at midday on the 22nd of October 2023, this journey will take Will, Josh and 'Bill' the AU Falcon on a 15,000km journey all the way around Australia's Highway 1. Will and Josh will be attempting to cover all of these kms in just 7 days, in time to get back to work.
This great journey will start in Hobart as Will and Josh travel through Tasmania and then board the Sprit of Tasmania ferry to travel to the mainland. Upon reaching the mainland, the boys will toss a coin to determine which direction they will drive around the mainland. The car will not stop at any point during the journey except for fuel stops with the boys rotating driving and sleeping duties.
Follow Will and Josh on their travels.
Introduced by Ford Australia in 1998, the AU Falcon was initially rather unloved due mainly to its unusual looks but has undergone a resurgence of late due to its toughness and perhaps its status as a bit of an underdog! Examples of the AU Falcon's toughness can be found on the popular Facebook page 'AU Falcons doing incredible things', which has garnered more than 100k followers.
Bill the AU Falcon was built as a Ford Falcon Futura back in 1998 and has had 3 loving owners during its time - Sharen, Bill and now Will and Josh! Bill the AU Falcon will be recieving a few minor upgrades to make sure its ready for the long trek ahead but is otherwise completely stock.
Will
Ladies and
gentlemen, gather 'round and meet Will, the guy who's not quite skyscraper-tall
but definitely stands tall among his mates. Taller than Josh, but hey, who
isn't?
Hailing from
the serene Southern Highlands, Will grew up in the bustling streets of
Melbourne but quickly discovered his heart belonged in the great outdoors. He's
not just an athlete; he's a force of nature. Endurance running? Piece of
lamington! Mountaineering? He's conquered peaks higher than your neighbour's
nosy cat.
He's so at
home in the bush that he could give a platypus a geography lesson. When Will's
not sprinting up a mountain, he's probably busy trying to beat the record for
the world's fastest Vegemite sandwich consumption.
So, if you
ever come across a tall guy with a magnificent moustache, making tracks up a
mountain or chasing kangaroos in the bush, you've found Will. He's the one
who's making Mother Nature herself raise an eyebrow and say, "Who's that
handsome bloke with the epic 'stache?"
Josh
Meet Josh, the man who's living life on the slopes and looking good doing it! This pint-sized powder hound was born on the stunning South Coast of NSW and grew up carving the snowy mountains like they were his personal playground.
While his attire might have a "homeless chic" vibe, don't let that fool you. Behind the scruffy appearance is a man who can wire up a house with the precision of a surgeon and carve down the slopes with the grace of a ballet dancer.
And when the
workday is done, Josh is never one to say no to a cold beer, especially if it's
accompanied by a thrilling cricket match. Those beautiful blue eyes have
witnessed many a sixer on the cricket field and the stunning vistas of mountain
peaks.
But watch
out, for if a sly fox dares to venture too close, you'll hear Josh's
distinctive cry: "Get out of here, you bloody fox!" As you can see,
Josh is a man of many layers, a unique blend of sports, work, and beer, all
packaged in a compact, bearded, and unforgettable frame.
Spanning 14,500kms, Australia's Highway 1 is the largest national highway in the world, surpassing the Trans-Siberian Highway and the Trans-Canada Highway by 3,500kms and 6,500kms respectively.
As a result of its sheer size, the road conditions on Highway vary greatly; from multi-lane freeways in highly populated areas to sealed two lane roads such as the Nullabor Plain in less populated areas.
